In order to graduate from the Bay City Public Schools, students need to accrue 12 hours of Volunteer experiences.

Once the student accrues 12 hours of Volunteer activities there will be a notation of VP on the report card. After the student satisfies the 12 hour requirement, he/she may continue to have hours recorded for the purpose of scholarships and honors at graduation.

What counts and what doesn't count toward volunteer hours?

Three types of service ideas that count
    • School coordinated activities: American Cancer Society Daffodil Days, Walk for Warmth, Paint-n-Pride ...
    • Community Based Organization Activities: Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Red Cross Blood Drives, American Cancer Society ...
    • Self-Initiated Activities: raking leaves, shoveling snow and nursing home volunteerism ...

    • Service that does not apply
    • Paid Service
    • Service that earns school credit or is performed within the school day
    • Religious Instruction
    • Conducting worship services
    • Political activities or activities intended to persuade / influence others
    • Service that is directed to benefit only a family member
